NainaAI Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 May 2026

NainaAI ("the app", "we") is an AI-powered anterior-segment eye screening tool published by theglaucomadoc (https://www.theglaucomadoc.org). This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. It is written for the Google Play Store listing and for users who want to understand exactly how their data is handled.

1. Summary

  • All AI processing runs on your device. No images, predictions, or metadata are sent to NainaAI or any third party.
  • The app does not require an account and does not collect personal identifying information.
  • No analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs are embedded.
  • Anything you save inside the app (scans, notes, patient IDs) stays in the app's private storage on your phone unless you explicitly export it.

2. Data we collect

We do not collect any data on our servers. We have no servers.

The app stores the following locally on your device only:

  • Photos you capture or upload for analysis
  • AI prediction results (probabilities for the 13 conditions the model is trained on)
  • Optional metadata you choose to enter for each scan: patient identifier, eye laterality (left/right), free-text notes
  • AI attention heatmaps generated from your photos
  • A flag indicating whether you have completed the on-boarding screens
  • A flag indicating whether you have accepted the medical disclaimer

This data lives in the app's private internal storage. Other apps cannot read it. It is not backed up to Google Drive automatically (we explicitly opt out of Android Auto-Backup for medical data).

3. Data we do not collect

We do not collect, transmit, or share:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifier
  • Your location
  • Your device identifier (advertising ID, Android ID, IMEI, etc.)
  • Your contacts, calendar, microphone, or any other sensor beyond the camera you grant permission to
  • Crash reports or analytics events
  • Any image you capture or upload

4. Permissions the app requests

PermissionWhy
CameraTo capture eye photos for AI analysis. Used only when you tap "Take photo".
Photo / media accessTo let you select an existing photo from your gallery for analysis. Granted per-photo via Android's Photo Picker; we never enumerate or scan your media library.
Storage (Downloads)To write the PDF reports, CSV exports, and backup ZIPs you explicitly request. We only write to a NainaAI/ subfolder inside your Downloads directory.

5. On-device AI

The app includes the following AI components, all of which run entirely on your device:

  • TensorFlow Lite running a MobileNetV2-class model trained for multi-label classification of 13 anterior-segment conditions. Model details and training data: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41602210/
  • Google ML Kit Face Detection (bundled) — used to detect a face in your photo so the app can crop tightly around the eye before classification. ML Kit's bundled model runs offline on your device and does not call Google's servers.

Neither component transmits your image off the device.

6. Sharing your data

We do not share your data with anyone, because we never receive it.

You may, at your own initiative, share data the app has stored on your device:

  • Tap "Export PDF" on a scan → a PDF is written to your Downloads folder. You can then share that PDF using any app you like.
  • Tap "Backup all scans" in Settings → a ZIP is written to Downloads. You control where it goes after that.
  • Tap "Export predictions as CSV" in Settings → a CSV file is written to Downloads.

These exports happen only when you tap the button. They never happen automatically.

7. Receiving images from other apps

When you share an image to NainaAI from another app (e.g. Photos, WhatsApp), Android passes the image to NainaAI for analysis. The image is processed on-device, exactly as if you had selected it from the gallery. Nothing is uploaded.

8. Children's privacy

The app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information; even so, parents and guardians should supervise any use by minors.

9. Medical disclaimer

NainaAI is not a medical device and is not approved by any regulatory body (FDA, CE, MDR, etc.) for clinical diagnosis. The AI predictions are intended for research, education, and screening only. Always consult a qualified ophthalmologist for medical advice.

10. Your rights

Because the app stores data only on your device, you have full control:

  • Delete a scan — long-press it on the home screen, select "Delete".
  • Delete all scans — uninstall the app, or use Android's "Clear app data" in system Settings.
  • Export a copy of your data — use the Backup, PDF, or CSV options in Settings.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same URL. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the most recent change. We recommend checking back occasionally.
